![]() I just recently received my Hastens mattress. I think this is a known thing, but it is "not an issue" when the mattress is well "taken care of." The question is, did you get all that information when the mattress was sold/delivered to you or not? If I was trying to splash out and get something special I wouldn't look twice at S brands or Tempur. I feel like if I was just trying to get a foam block to sleep on I'd cheap out or DIY rather than spend those huge premiums. In the other case it's just a plastic foam block. In the Tempur case you're paying a big overhead to cover returns and exchanges, while Hastens doesn't really have these policies since it's all made to order.īoth seem very overpriced to me but in one case it seems like you're at least getting something a bit special. In both cases you're paying a huge premium for insurance (warranty). In both cases you're paying a ton of extra money for the name brand and marketing. Can't say for sure without seeing price/cost breakdowns but spending 3-5 thousand dollars for a slab of petroleum foam sets off my "rip off" alert a little more than spending even 10 or 20 thousand dollars on something handmade using solid wood, horse hair, wool, etc. Visit us online at, at our store located at 1030 SW 8th Street in Miami or give us a call at 30 for more information on Hästens mattresses or other brands. Can't believe I'm defending Hastens pricing here but I could imagine an argument that Hastens is no more overpriced than Tempur or S brands. Gumbo limbo ( Bursera simaruba) is an especially popular species of the genus Bursera. Keep reading to learn more gumbo limbo info, including gumbo limbo care and how to grow gumbo limbo trees. These trees are popular in hot climates as specimen trees, and especially for lining streets and sidewalks in urban settings. Kenneth Setzer is writer and editor at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.Gumbo limbo trees are big, very fast growing, and interestingly shaped natives of southern Florida. Natural predators seem to have reduced this whitefly, though it can still be found feeding from gumbo limbo, so avoid planting the tree near pools, driveways or patios that may suffer from staining. ![]() The whitefly’s honeydew excretion causes the sooty black mold that stains sidewalks, patios, cars and anything under the affected trees. Though immune to most pests, the gumbo limbo was recently a favorite of the rugose spiraling whitefly (Aleurodicus rugioperculatus). It’s been valued as incense by pre-Columbian, Mesoamerican cultures for centuries. The Burseraceae family has a long history, indeed prehistory, involving its resin and human cultures. The resin has also been used in varnishes and glue. I won’t go into the medicinal practices, but will say that different parts of these trees - resin, sap, leaves, bark, fruit, wood and their various extracts - have been used to treat inflammation, parasites, digestive issues and just about everything else. The gumbo limbo belongs to the Burseraceae family, also known as the torchwood or frankincense family, which has loads of ethnobotanical, medicinal and cultural uses. It’s a good candidate for habitat restoration because it is fast-growing (though non-invasive) and can tolerate most soil types. Once established, it requires no irrigation at all, nor additional nutrition. While it won’t tolerate longterm saltwater inundation, it does have a moderate tolerance to salt air, making it a great coastal tree. Gumbo limbo obviously thrives in our poor, alkaline soil. Some researchers claim that trees grown from seed survive hurricane winds more often than those grown from cuttings. The small red berries appear in clusters and are an important food for many birds, including winter migrants, not to mention squirrels. Their fruit, however, is much more showy, and equally important for wildlife. Flowers may appear all year, and though not necessarily attractive to us, bees rely on them as an important food source. The gumbo limbo’s flowers grow abundantly along panicles, but are small, greenish and inconspicuous. It may seem odd to see a bare tree in South Florida, but this is normal for the gumbo limbo in late fall or spring, and the leaf shedding is usually not complete. Gumbo limbos are semi-evergreen, regenerating leaves seasonally or during drought conditions. Stocky, older individuals develop a massive trunk several feet in diameter that swells after lots of rain, three or four thick lower limbs, and a canopy nearly as wide as the tree is tall. It can attain heights of about 50 feet or more. It is found in northern South America, the Caribbean and - in its northernmost range - here in Southeast Florida. Gumbo limbo (Bursera simaruba) belongs to a family of mostly tropical trees. Though it’s a common tree in most South Florida neighborhoods, gumbo limbo is one of the most important members of our hammock ecosystem and has an interesting tale to tell. It’s easy to dismiss that which is all around us, but ask anyone from outside South Florida what a gumbo limbo is, and chances are they’ll think it’s a Cajun soup. ![]() To make matter worse, these trails can fade over time. This process is so dull, even with the help of your best bud beagle it’s tricky to find the very subtle paw prints, blood trail for even animal poo so you can get the hunt started. First you find an animal to track, which can take literal hours of hunting around for the clues and tracks. Unfortunately, it’s the moment to moment gameplay that lets the game down. The hunting mechanics are all there, the weapons are there, beautiful locations to explore and a friendly canine companion to keep you company. Fines are issued if you take too many shots for example, or bizarrely for a game of this nature you get fined if you partake in unethical treatment of animals. You will also need some cash to pay fines. As you can imagine there is a hell of a lot of weapons on offer too, from rifles to shotguns to the trusty bow. The In-game money isn’t just for buying licenses. This loop, in theory at least, should make the player want to go out and hunter bigger and more prize-worthy animals but in reality, its just such a darn slow slog. In order to purchase new licenses, you will need to complete smaller hunts, and sell your ‘trophies’ to make some cash. ![]() You need licenses for each of the animals you hunt. ![]() To hunt these animals, it’s not simply a case of heading out into the wilderness and unloading a few rounds on an unsuspecting deer. As you would imagine each of these areas, along with their beauty provide different sorts of animals for you to hunt. There are three open-world areas fo you do explore – Colorado, Texas, and Europe – each having two maps to explore. It’s just you, your gun and your trusty companion, and the wide-open countryside at your disposal. You wake up, or in this case, just appear in a cabin with a voice-over telling you what to do. It portrays the sheer boredom of the ‘sport’ within the first five minutes. Once you have the basics out of the way you’ll soon realise halfway through the tutorial that Hunting Simulator 2 does one thing very accurately. They couldn’t just have had a kennel, could they? These sidekicks are arguably the best part of the game, it’s just a little disturbing that you have to walk over to a skinned animal rug in your super swanky lodge to choose which dog you want to take on each hunt. There are different breeds, ranging from said beagle to a Labrador or a German Shepard. ![]() The best part is that your beloved companion can be upgraded if you praise the dog during hunts. Hunting Simulator 2 starts off with a tutorial that teaches you the basics and introduces you to your new best friend – A hunting beagle companion who will help you sniff out different wildlife and track them for you. There is tracking your pray, licenses, money, trophies, and more variety of guns than you know what to do with. Shocker! It’s not just about point and shooting your gun however, it’s far more involved than that. Is this the game that could change my mind?Īs you might have guessed from the name, Hunting Simulator 2 is a first-person game that’s all about hunting. Despite ‘Divisiongate’ (In which I was accused of shooting a harmless Dog while playing The Division) I don’t like the killing of animals at all, even in video games – but here we have Hunting Simulator 2 to test my resolve. Hunting Simulator 2 replicates the 'fun' of hunting, right down to the boredom between firing your weapon. ![]()

Unlike this amazing artist's jewelry,Ms Poulat's ornate religious stands are not the easiest to come across, since they are highly collectible & have gone into the hands of collectors. To this day, her work is HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE! Her jewelry was worn & collected by celebrities in Mexico(Including Frida Kahlo) & the 'elite of America. Every piece made, are literally works of art. Another one of her signature styles was her time consuming 'chasing' work in the metal,as well as using 'pyramidal' cuts of amethyst. She was known for laying round turquoise or coral cabochons, all in one bezel that was then crimped' to hold the stones in, rather than setting them individually & you will see the perfect example of this style in this stand, which gives her piece's a whole different look, because of this. Each designer during the Mexican Silver Renaissance days had their own unique style, but it was Matilde, who brought the beautiful motifs of doves, flowers, tiny bells & angels that are reminiscent of the whimsical subjects of contemporary Mexican folk art.The beauty of her metal work, was so time consuming & was considered Baroque in style with a undeniably "Mexican" look. Shortly thereafter, Apple Computer formed Claris, a wholly owned subsidiary, to market software. Microsoft negotiated with Nashoba for the right to publish FileMaker, but Nashoba decided to self-publish the next version, FileMaker 4. Microsoft had introduced its own database application, Microsoft File, shortly before FileMaker, but was outsold by FileMaker and therefore Microsoft File was discontinued. With the introduction of the Macintosh, Nashoba combined the basic data engine with a new forms-based graphical user interface (GUI). Ounce to Kilogram Conversion Table Ounce ġ5 oz = 15 × 0.0283495231 kg = 0.Before we dive into the conversion formula, let’s first understand the difference between pounds and kilograms. ![]() This is evidenced by the fact that the mass of the original prototype for the kilogram now weighs 50 micrograms less than other copies of the standard kilogram.Ĭurrent use: As a base unit of SI, the kilogram is used globally in nearly all fields and applications, with the exception of countries like the United States, where the kilogram is used in many areas, at least to some extent (such as science, industry, government, and the military) but typically not in everyday applications. Prior to the current definition, the kilogram was defined as being equal to the mass of a physical prototype, a cylinder made of a platinum-iridium alloy, which was an imperfect measure. The kilogram was originally defined as the mass of one liter of water at its freezing point in 1794, but was eventually re-defined, since measuring the mass of a volume of water was imprecise and cumbersome.Ī new definition of the kilogram was introduced in 2019 based on Planck's constant and changes to the definition of the second. This is at least in part due to the inconsistencies and lack of coherence that can arise through use of centimeter-gram-second systems, such as those between the systems of electrostatic and electromagnetic units. SI is a system based on the meter-kilogram-second system of units rather than a centimeter-gram-second system. Unlike the other SI base units, the kilogram is the only SI base unit with an SI prefix. History/origin: The name kilogram was derived from the French "kilogramme," which in turn came from adding Greek terminology meaning "a thousand," before the Late Latin term "gramma" meaning "a small weight." The changes were intended to improve the definitions of SI base units, not to actually change how the units are used throughout the world. ![]() Even though the definition of the kilogram was changed in 2019, the actual size of the unit remained the same. The meter and the second are defined in terms of c, the speed of light, and cesium frequency, Δ νCs. It is currently defined based on the fixed numerical value of the Planck constant, h, which is equal to 6.62607015 × 10 -34 in the units of J Kilogramĭefinition: A kilogram (symbol: kg) is the base unit of mass in the International System of Units (SI). It is however, still used in some settings in the UK, such as restaurants. Due to metrication, the United Kingdom (UK) no longer officially uses the ounce. The ounce is still used in some other countries around the world that have roots in British history and culture. It is mostly used in the United States for measuring packaged food products, food portions, and postal items, among other things. The current definition of the ounce, the international avoirdupois ounce was adopted in 1959.Ĭurrent use: The ounce is still a standard unit of mass in the US customary system of measurement. Examples include the Dutch metric ounce (100g), French ounce (30.59g), and the Spanish ounce (28.75g), among others. The ounce has been used as a standard of mass throughout history for different applications and with different definitions. This relationship between the Roman pound and foot eventually contributed to the uncia being the basis of the modern inch as well as the common ounce. The copper bar was divided into twelve equal parts, called unciae. History/origin: The origin of the term ounce stems from the Roman uncia, which means a "twelfth part," and the use of a standardized copper bar which defined both the Roman pound and foot. The avoirdupois ounce (the common ounce) is defined as exactly 28.349523125 grams and is equivalent to one sixteenth of an avoirdupois pound. Definition: An ounce (symbol: oz) is a unit of mass in the imperial and US customary systems of measurement. ![]() ![]() I did this for the apes, and I have updated the table and chart to include current numbers & the addition of the cats. One metric I use to determine the strength of a project is the % of unique holders, or the average NFTs per holder. Not to mention there are plenty of apes like me who also love the cats. Cats were perfectly positioned to create a new community out of these people. I wrote about why I think the market was ripe to jump on the cat bandwagon in this twitter thread but the cliff notes version is that there are a lot of people who feel like they missed out on the BAYC bandwagon and are now priced out of jumping on. One of the most notable/interesting things with GutterCats is that their mint count was significantly lower than any other similar project, and the mint price was also on the low end being at 0.07. It’s still a bit too early to tell how the cats are going to play out but we can look at everything that has happened since launch (and even pre-launch) and try and make some educated guesses. There is value in being a part of a community, but only if that value is created by the community members and the team behind it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I think NFT avatars are a multi billion dollar industry, and this is just the beginning. There is room for more than one successful avatar project in this space. The BAYC clearly have a winning formula, so why not copy them (or to phrase it more kindly: “take inspiration from them”). The concept is essentially a complete knock-off of the Bored Apes - a bunch of NFTs that can double as avatars as well as serving as some sort of membership to a club or community, with full rights granted to the owner.
